Hipsta Labatique 73, the Olloclip and SimplyHDR

Often I try to shoot with just one app when on location. This gives me the opportunity to create a series of images with similar looks. Then I process with the same apps. This group of images was shot at the Lanaconing Silk Mill with the Olloclip for the Fish eye looks and Hipsta set to Labatique 73 lens a modern twist on Calotype styling of 1873 and Kodot XGrizzled film. When shooting with Hipsta, I usually make three or four shots of the same scene as the unique features of Hipsta will place light and dark areas in each image in slightly different ways. This will give me a choice of images, then I can decide which light enhancement I like best. The Olloclip adds an interesting distortion but looses sharpness in the image to a degree, and more so on the edges of the image, but its a look! The turn of the century silk mill is dark and gritty. I chose SimplyHDR as the processing app to add even more grit and pop some dark areas. Because the mill is so dark the iPhone actually added a lot of noise into the image as well. Then I finished off the images with a consistent frame choice from Crop'n'Frame
This image was processed with PhotoCopier and I chose the Photo style menu and applied a tone. This is the only image in this series I processed in that manner. Notice the tone of the white frame is different from the other images in this series.

Nanticoke Indian Pow Wow

Yesterday I attended the Nanticoke Indian Pow Wow in Millsboro, Delaware. Arriving at the Pow Wow site as the opening remarks were being made, and standing right under the overhead speaker I wanted to record the comments. So I quickly searched the App store for a recording app and made the recording here. I also made the Diptic out of several images I shot with ClassicPan. The colors of the feathers and blankets on display caught my eye. All the images were processed the same way, first smudged in PhotoForge, then blended back with the original file in Iris, then processed in ArtistaOil and sharpened in PerfectPhoto..then framed in Snapseed. I used iMovie to bring the recording and the image together. I hope it works I can't really tell until its published! It was a super day with lots of energy and beautiful attire. Also this week I was the featured iPhoneographer on the Beginners Lens. The article and site can be found HERE

Diptic Revisited: ClassicPan

Well its been a while since I was posting with any frequency but I am back home from three weeks on the road and sorting and processing images. While in the Palouse, I had an opportunity to shoot some old trucks. I chose to shoot pieces of the trucks as they were interesting to me. I used ClassicPan, to capture the format I eventually wanted to use in piecing these together in Diptic. The amazing colors, textures and handiwork on the old farm trucks were what attracted me. A single shot cold not demonstrate  fully the variety of interest so I felt that a Diptic arrangement would work to show the beauty in the old trucks and paint.

The shots of the Palouse landscape below were all made while riding in the back of a vehicle out the window at 50 mph with ClassicPan. All the images were adjusted for saturation, levels and sharpness in Iris. They were framed in an app called Crop'n'Frame. Will be posting more from the trip, as I get them processed and time allows.

Hipstamatic and the OlloClip

It's been a while since I posted because I have been on the road...and have not had much processing time. The shots here were made with the OlloClip ~ Fisheye attachment lens and the Hipstamatic app. They were sharpened in PerfectPhoto and signed with Impression. I had a ton of fun shooting with the OlloClip and these old trucks!

Shopping and Shooting: Creating Mood with Apps: ScratchCam:OldPhotoPro:Noir:Iris

Yesterday, I went shopping. There is a home furnishings and accessory store I love in Rehoboth called Tulip and I always make a stop there when I am at the beach. While shopping I fell in love with the amazing collection of unique lamps they had on display. So I went to work whipped out my iPhone and made some bracketed shots with BracketMode for processing later. At the end of the day at home I processed these images in a similar way going for a moody retro look. ScratchCam is great for adding texture and Old PhotoPro is great for toning. Noir is super for enhancing selective lighting and vignettes. So I combined the three apps after processing the bracketed shots in iCamHDR.
Here are two of the shots in color after processing them in iCameraHDR and the Converted shots. I also applied Perfect Photo sharpening to the finished shots, and I used TouchRetouch to take out the wooden furniture in the beaded lamp image on the right.

What I love about Summer!!! and the iPhone was there!

BracketMode:TrueHDR:Iris:AutoPainter ll ~Felt tip:Crop'n'Frame:Toaster

Yes two posts in one day......makes me share some thoughts regarding making images: what I find is that I still take as many big camera pictures but I take lots more iPhone shots, where I might not have pulled out the big camera. The apps are just so much fun to work with! Now I shoot these images with the idea of what app I want to use on them. iPhone photography to me is not about the sharpest shot with a big resolution, but a little picture with lots of fun and attitude.
I have been driving past this produce stand all spring as they readied their space for the arrival of fresh seasonal and local produce. I was excited when I saw they were painting the melon boxes red and green and made note when I was passing to make sure I stop when the season arrived. So today on the way to the beach for the last time until September, I stopped in the little town of Clinton, Delaware, bought some produce and made some pictures. I hope they make you smile! They are so summer on the shore! and I got a dozen ears of fresh picked corn for $4.95!

Then when I arrived at the beach my neighbor had his garage open with his robin's egg blue vintage T-Bird, so I had to make a shot of that....so summer! So vintage!
