Turquoise Mining Museum...BracketMode..TureHDR
This group of images were made in the dusty old west town of Cerillos in the Turquoise Mining Museum. This was not the first time I was in Cerillos, I came across it when I made a turn off Rt 25 on to Waldo Canyon Road and made a 12 mile dirt road run into Cerillos a week before the Gottlieb group arrived. The town streets had signs saying special event today. I drove up to the signs and asked about the event and I was told they were filming a movie. I turned around and headed out, but made note of the very old and interesting town. So when we headed here with the Gottlieb group, I was glad to return, except for the dust and wind. It really is an old west town! with one or two shops a couple homes and ruin. We stopped at the Cerillos Turquoise Mining Museum. These shots were all made handheld with the iPhone in BracketMode and merged in TrueHDR.

Classical Gas Museum PicGrunger: BracletMode: True HDR
This is a parallel post to the post I made on my "Big Girl Camera" Blog, but these are the iPhone images I made there which will give you more of an idea about the place. All of these images were shot with the BracketMode App, merged with TrueHDR and Treated with PicGrunger for texture and border...no sharpening or other adjustments were made. Well with one exception, the string of Gas pumps was processed with AutoStitch as it is a seven shot image stitched together on the iPhone.
The Highlight of this second to last day in New Mexico was the Classical Gas Museum in Embudo, NM, which is located along the Rio Grande, halfway between Espanola and Taos. Johnnie Meier, the owner, is president of the Route 66 New Mexico Association and contributing editor to the Route 66 and American Roads magazines. He is a voice for Route 66 restoration and commemoration and is the major force behind a project to restore old neon signs at motels and restaurants across the State of New Mexico. I made more shots with my iPhone there than I did with the "big" camera, but these are a few I did make with the "big" camera. The "Museum" is not what one would think of..instead it is an old storefront along highway 66 with rusting old pumps lined up outside along with an assortment of other found or collected things. Inside he has for sale among other memorabilia, reproduction signs and gas globes. It was a fun place to shoot!

How do you see a tree...Rays..BracketMode..Noir..Camera or Iphone position matters
Noir, BracketMode, TrueHDR, Rays, Iris
Yesterday I made a trip to the beach. I'll be here for just a few days this time: meeting contractors for maintenance work on the beach house. I had time to stop and make a few images, as I was not racing a clock yesterday. The farmers fields have been planted and the spring wheat is greening. I often see a single tree, as I come and go from the beach. I have noted its place, standing alone in a field, but the time, the weather and conditions have never really been right to stop and make some images, until yesterday! I pulled off the road and onto a farmers road, with no trespassing signs posted. But I figured they wouldn't mind me taking a picture, if they even saw me over the acres of flat wheat fields.
The first image I take is never the "Final" image, instead a warm up...so here is the scene as I shot it with the iPhone app CameraPlusPro. I have done no work to this image. It is right out of the iPhone. Funny when I say that I chuckle, but the thought process is the same for DSLR shooting too! Not much too look at, but rife with opportunity. This image made me switch apps to BracketMode for two images with different exposures, which I had in mind to blend in TrueHDR when I had a chance. I also did not like this camera or iPhone position as it really did nothing for me, so I said what if...what if I see it from the ground with the beautiful green wheat I loved in the foreground. Then it started to happen, I got my mini Joby tripod out because I could not hand hold a bracketed exposure in this muddy knee position! SO I made some brackets, both horizontal and vertical, and headed on down the road.

BonJour: Grungetastic: LoMob: Vintage Scene
Capture: True HDR App: Processed: Vintage Scene: LoMob: Crop'n'Frame: Impression
Its been a busy couple of weeks....my classes started at Hopkins again, I met with the accountant to get taxes done, hosted a dinner party, been working on some lecture preparation..sold a car..had a spot of early skin cancer taken off my leg...held some private tutoring sessions, made some prints...and have been sick with a nagging cough since I came back from Longwood two weeks ago....whew, but last night I had the pleasure of meeting a neighbor and her daughter for a lovely seafood crepe dinner and dessert at a little cafe called BonJour. Now I am sorry to say I had not been there before, but every Thursday night I pass the little place at Falls Road and Lake Avenue on the way to Camera Club, and I think how cute it is painted purple on the outside, but never stopped to check it out. I arrived a little early and enjoyed a yummy latte while the owners prepped for their crepe evening. I also took the opportunity to make some iPhone images while enjoying the latte. The place feels just like a little French Cafe. The Chef Owner Gerard is French and bakes all the pastries. While I was waiting the little distressed mirror topped cafe tables were catching my eye as well as the small wrought iron cafe chairs, so I made a few iPhone images. I also used the Photo Transfer app to move these images from the iPhone to my laptop wirelessly... pretty cool stuff! Now I have some more images for my iPhone presentation on May 2 in Tyson's Corner, I'll be showing images, talking about the apps I use and how to use the iPhone for creative imaging.

True HDR: Longwood Gardens
After a full morning of shooting with the Nikon, I walked around the Longwood Conservatory looking for some photo opportunities with my iPhone. Now I will admit, it was very crowded and people were everywhere, but I found some places to pause and make some HDR iPhone images. I am amazed at this application how one can handhold and still get pretty sharp bracketed shots...I had my Joby with me but there was not an appropriate place to set it on for many of these shots. These images were processed on the iPhone using various apps, but the one that gives this image the "look" is called Vintage Scene.
The advantage of shooting in the late afternoon on a sunny day is the lighting that fills the conservatory from the south west. In the Palm House the sun was filling the room front lighting the palms details and fronds. I am not usually there at this time of day so it was a fun thing to see how it looks in the afternoon.
Processed in PhotoForge for the aged look and then into the app called PicGrunger for border and texture.
This is a contrived image made in an app called Symmetry, but it originated with a straight shot of some drooping ferns against a foggy conservatory window.

True HDR: AutoStitch: in Fells Point
Yesterday, I met a client in Fells Point for some lessons in photography. I had a little time before the session to make a panoramic image of the harbor side. The image here is an 8 shot image stitched together in an app called AutoStitch. I also used the True HDR camera app to capture the images blending each of two shots to get a dynamic range, so really it was 16 shots to get the 8 shot image.
I used the Joby tripod and ball head fitted with a Glif mount and wrapped it around a railing to keep the iPhone still while capturing the images. Too much fun ~ You should see the looks people give me when they see this little process taking place...I can image it looks a little funny!

True HDR: Hampton Mansion
True HDR Capture: Photocopier App Turner: Rain, Steam and Speed for developing: Filterstorm for border: Impression for signature
Today was really a test for the True HDR app in the iPhone. It was also a test for me! In the bright snow my photo gray glasses really got dark making the icons and menu options very hard to see. I tried out my new little Joby SLR Zoom Tripod with a mini-ball head wrapped around my regular tripod. I also used the Glif mounted to the Joby Tripod. It worked just fine and is pretty portable and stable.
These shots were made in manual mode of the True HDR app selecting the brightest point on the image and making a shot then selecting the darkest point and making a second shot. I was also tested by this as I had to take my gloves off to make it work. It was also a little difficult hitting the exact right spot. But all in all it is a pretty amazing app.

True HDR: National Building Museum
True HDR: Symmetry: for mirroring: Photogene for reflection: Iris: for color and shadow highlight.
Today I had the great pleasure of attending a special event in the National Building Museum, where model airplane makers were gathered to fly their models in the great hall area. The event was created to encourage the public to construct your own rubber-band-propelled model airplane with the DC Maxecuters, then try a test flight in the Great Hall. It was fun to watch the faces on the children as they delighted with the flight of the planes. After doing some work with my Nikon, I decided to head up to the balcony on the third floor and try the True HDR app in the iPhone. I used the balcony to steady the iPhone and made some images.
